Impossible LP Theory

Impossible LP Theory (also known as ImpossiPrimus Theory) is the idea that Liber Primus is intentionally unsolvable. This would be because a forever unsolved LP would be more favorable to 3301’s goals than a solved LP.

This theory follows from 3301’s mission, which is stated in The Leaked Email to be centered around furthering ‘liberty, privacy, and security’ in the digital age. The Cicada 3301 phenomenon as a whole has brought many people into cybersecurity related fields, including many well-known members of the CicadaSolvers community.

The Impossible LP Theory considers that an unsolved LP is most successful for 3301’s goals. It will continue to bring new solvers in who will become socialized towards cybersecurity related fields. On the other hand, a one day solved LP will likely result in a big spike of interest in Cicada. Then 3301 would either have to create a new puzzle step to continue the hype or the general interest in Cicada will fall to a low. Thus the amount of socialized individuals would be less in the aggregate than with an unsolved LP. The theory contends that 3301 calculated this and intentionally made a nonsense cipher text with tantalizing cryptanalysis to keep a constant flow of new solvers.
